All about vail

All about vail

Settled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and home to a world renowned ski resort, Vail is a scenic 2 hour drive west of Denver. We chose it so that we could be both surrounded and inspired by the natural beauty of Colorado but also close enough to civilization that people would actually show up.

Vail itself is small and walkable and they have a sweet FREE bus system that takes you most places you’d like to go within the town. (Tourists and locals use it and love it) so you really don’t need a car once you get there.

Altitude & Weather

Altitude & Weather

Vail is situated 8150 feet above sea level. That’s high. Higher than Denver and WAY higher than Atlanta and San Francisco. Because there’s less oxygen in the air it can be a little harder to do things you normally do (like walk up a hill, or metabolize a single beer without feeling drunk).

We know you are all tough and won’t be bothered by the altitude, but just in case (and because we really want everyone to dance with us well into Saturday night) we thought we'd share a few tips from the locals and the Vail website.

Tips for how to acclimatize

  1. Drink a lot of water–way more than you want to or that you think will fit.

  2. Engage in light activity during the day–it helps your body acclimatize more quickly

  3. Spend a night in a mid-level altitude before (like Denver)

  4. Dress in layers–the weather is colder in the mountains and can change quickly.

  5. Wear sunscreen! Because the atmosphere is thinner, and you’re just a little bit closer to the sun, sunburns happen more easily.

Congratulations! You are a very fertile bunch. So fertile that our guest list shows a collective total of 35 children under the age of 8-years-old.

We love kids, and the good news for us is that when we start our own family, many of yours will be at a good babysitting age. However, we had to draw the line somewhere and are thus limiting our invitation to the wedding to only children in the Tracy or Halbreich families. This will be an adult wedding, and we hope you take it as an opportunity for a night out.

Please chat with us if this is an issue and we’ll figure something out.
